Dr. Alan Pierce is a practicing pathologist and medical laboratory director with interests in molecular pathology, toxicology, clinical chemistry and hematology. He served as chief of pathology and medical laboratory director at two acute care, general medical and surgical hospitals in South Florida. He directed laboratories at Westside Regional Medical Center in Plantation, FL for 26 years and laboratories at Wellington Regional Medical Center in Wellington, FL for 20 years. He founded the Meditrend Group, a reference laboratory for anatomic pathology, and directed the laboratory for 28 years. Dr. Pierce has served as the director of statewide and national clinical laboratories. He has consulted for national hospital corporations and a healthcare forecasting company. Dr. Pierce is an active member of the College of American Pathologists, the American Society for Clinical Pathology, the Association for Molecular Pathology and the American Medical Association. As a fellow of the College of American Pathologists, he chaired and served on many committees, councils and task forces in the areas of physician education, laboratory practice, laboratory management, public affairs, public communication, and primary care services. He is a media trained medical spokesperson and has been an inspector in the Laboratory Accreditation Program for the College. Dr. Pierce has been active in the medical education of resident physicians, and he directed a school of laboratory technology. Dr. Pierce has been a speaker at local, state and national meetings.
